Who's Who.
The department is staffed by two music teachers. A specialist technician, works within the department on one day per week.
Instrumental Provision.
The school has a team of eight peripatetic instrumental teachers. Students learn the full range of orchestral instruments, as well as guitar, keyboard, drum kit, steel pans and voice. Many students have tuition throughout the school day and all GCSE and AS/A2 Music students are encouraged to have instrumental/vocal tuition either within or outside of school. Music at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
All students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have one Music lesson per week.
Music is a popular option at GCSE and AS/A2 Level with a curriculum that covers a wide range of musical styles from classical to pop and world music.
Practical experience is encouraged at all levels.
Music Accommodation.
We have good quality, purpose-built accommodation. There are two teaching rooms, with eight PCs running music specific software. In addition, the 'Band Room' houses the drum kit, a keyboard and electric and bass guitars.
There are also seven practice rooms, four pianos, 1 electric piano, classroom percussion, acoustic guitars and a set of steel pans. Each teaching room has a hi-fi system and high quality recordings of students' work are made on mini-disc recorders. There are also rooms available for instrumental teaching.
