Specialist College

Our specialist subjects include:

Design, Technology and the Arts, Science, Mathematics and English.

Our Vision is to:

  • raise attainment in our specialist areas for all our students and to use this as a catalyst for whole school improvement through innovative approaches to teaching and learning, particularly through the use of new technologies;

  • promote an inclusive culture which is creative, scientific, technological, enterprising with an applied learning focus;

  • promote enjoyment of many different artistic forms and encourage participation in a wide variety of artistic and creative activity;

  • enable students to work in school with professionals from the arts and technology industries and to enjoy artistic and cultural experiences both inside and outside the classroom;

  • develop and share good practice across the curriculum and in particular across the specialist subjects;

  • use the specialist subjects to improve learning in other curriculum areas and as lead practitioners in the use of specialist ICT as a means of enhancing learning;

  • improve post-16 participation in the specialist subjects and related areas of study;

  • provide a range of enrichment and applied learning opportunities in the specialist subjects to improve understanding and extend learning for students and others in the community;

  • extend vocational choices and enrichment through links with higher education, sponsors, business etc.;

  • be committed to the professional development of staff in centres of excellence, sharing resources and developing and sharing expertise with a local family of schools and their wider communities;

  • increase future employment opportunities for students and help them to develop the skills needed to progress to employment, further education or training and higher education according to their individual abilities, aptitudes and ambitions.

Trinity was first designated a Specialist Technology College in Sept 2000. In 2004/5 we were successful in our application for a second specialism and became a Specialist Technology and Arts College. We were redesignated in 2010.

Our annual programme of events is diverse, involving our own students and the wider community, business, and of course, our partner primary and secondary schools.

It includes numerous clubs, exhibitions; competitions; enhanced links with business and higher education (and other organisations); primary events week; master-classes; workshops; professionals in residence; adult courses; support of local groups and many other initiatives.

Please contact Stephen Steinhaus (Assistant Principal and Specialist College Coordinator) for further information. We also welcome offers of assistance from parents who are interested in or have particular expertise in technology or the arts.
